When Sunday, August 18, 2019. We gather at 8:20 at the end of the road by TMMC (see web page for details) for intros, announcements, and brief trail description before heading out at 8:30.
The drive from PA takes about an hour. For carpooling gather at the end of Geng Rd, in the parking lot
here at 7:05am. Carpools are self-organizing and should be on their way by 7:15am. With this longish drive carpooling is encouraged, go with friends, make a day of it!
Going North on 280/101, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and (before going up the hill or thru the Rainbow Tunnel) take the Alexander Ave. exit and turn right toward Sausalito. A left takes you through the Fort Baker Tunnel. The tunnel entrance is the first road on your left. Signals regulate one-way auto traffic. Go through tunnel and follow road out towards Rodeo Beach. Just prior to the Beach and near the beginning of the Lagoon, a road will take you up the hill to the right. Look for signs to The Marine Mammal Center which is on the right going up the hill.
There's a new, large parking lot at the base of the hill where we will meet.
A Google route map from the carpool lot to the MMC parking lot can be found here.
What Two mapped routes of approximately 11.5 or 7.5 miles. Each with lotsa vertical. We will have printed maps to hand out.
This is a remote trail run and each runner must carry at least one water bottle. To avoid having to search for lost runners we ask every runner to find other runners of approximately the same running ability to form a group. The runners in each group must be able to account for their partners to make sure nobody is lost.
After the run, we will gather at the picnic tables outside of The MMC for a runners' potluck, so please bring food or drink to share.
TMMC Tour Info: Stan has arranged for comp'ed tours of The Marine Mammal Center starting at about 11:15am. If we have more than 15 for the tour, we may split up into multiple groups and then a group might be able to start the tour earlier. The tour takes 30-45 minutes and is a "not to miss" opportunity.
As well, there is a self-guided public tour which is also terrific; If you've never experienced TMMC, you'll be amazed! And we are right there besides the also amazing Pacific with our running buddies on the Marin Headlands, it might be chilly.... So bring warm clothes for after.
At our runs we provide printed maps with trail segments numbered to show the routes. Following is the map for this month's run - click it to enlarge. All distances are approximate. Also, check out the
