This May, we’ll have a special run adventure, journeying from Stanford to Half Moon Bay. The route features a mix of roadside running, local trails, and a beach finish along the coast. This is a great run for those who have recently trained for a marathon, or done at least one recent long run (say, 17 miles)
We’ll send out an RSVP link at the beginning of May. For now, check out the itinerary and details below.

Start
The group will meet at the Stanford Oval, and start the run just after 8am. We will split into 2 or more groups based on level of fitness so members will have someone to run with throughout the day.
Route
The route (~22 miles and 2500 ft of elevation) heads up Page Mill road en route to Woodside, before entering Huddart Park. You can refill water bottles in lower Huddart before making your way up the forested trails to Skyline Boulevard. Crossing the road into Purisima, you’ll begin the main descent towards Half Moon Bay. From there, the route finishes on a quiet road that brings you toward town and the finish at Poplar beach.
If there is sufficient interest in a shorter run, we may have a group drive up to Purisima at Skyline and join for the (mostly) downhill portion of the route.
Post-run
As runners finish, we’ll celebrate at the beach and then make our way to one of several restaurants on Main Street for lunch.
Part of what makes this route so great is the easy return! The hourly Samtrans bus 294 from Half Moon Bay goes directly to the Hillsdale Caltrain station, for easy return to Stanford, Palo Alto, or other locations along the Caltrain line.
Gear
We recommend participants bring at least 2 water bottles for the run (~32 fl oz), some sort of snack or gels for extra calories during the run, and an extra long sleeve for warmth (Half Moon Bay tends to be slightly cooler and breezier than Palo Alto on average).
